The Algorand Foundation announced that on April 21, it will darken Times Square in New York to exhibit its dedication to showing its commitment to sustainability. The event is planned in advance with Earth Day in the United States, which is to be celebrated on April 22. The event intends to correct misinformation about blockchain technology’s carbon footprint as well as raise awareness about the ecological impact of Times Square billboards. Darkening Times Square for a duration of one hour saves roughly 6500-kilowatt-hours which is equivalent to the energy required to complete 350 million finalized transactions on-chain or 2 work weeks worth of network liveness. In comparison, it would power up to six finalized transactions on the Bitcoin network running for just 1.5 seconds. The event also intends to discuss the need for mass education on the difference between proof-of-stake and proof-of-work consensus mechanisms and Algorand’s dedication to being a “carbon-negative” blockchain. The post Algorand Rents Time Square Billboard To Advocate Sustainability first appeared on Cryptoknowmics-Crypto News and Media Platform. The post Algorand Rents Time Square Billboard To Advocate Sustainability appeared first on Cryptoknowmics-Crypto News and Media Platform.
