New York Crypto Mining Plant Permit Delayed Amid Environment Concerns

According to a recent Bloomberg report, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) has postponed a decision on whether crypto mining business Greenidge Generation may continue to utilize its power plant near Dresden for bitcoin mining. The state’s Department of Environmental Conservation will now make its decision by the end of March. According to the newspaper, the judgment is now due by March 31, two months later than scheduled. According to a representative for the NYSDEC, the delay will allow the agency to finish its evaluation with public input. In a comprehensive letter dated December 2, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) questioned the environmental impact of Greenidge Generation’s (GREE) bitcoin mining operation in New York. The senator went after six additional crypto miners, challenging their energy consumption. Greenidge announced on January 16 that the business had temporarily halted bitcoin mining activities in Dresden, the day before owing to increased electricity demand caused by recent cold weather. This was done in order to supply the New York Independent System Operator with all of its electrical generation capability. Last year, the miner requested to renew the plant’s licenses. It had been up for renewal for the first time since it began powering bitcoin mining operations. The post New York Crypto Mining Plant Permit Delayed Amid Environment Concerns appeared first on Cryptoknowmics-Crypto News and Media Platform.
