Malaysian Police Destroys 1,773 Bitcoin ASIC Miners Amid Electricity Theft Crackdown

Malaysian police have reportedly seized and destroyed 1,773 Bitcoin ASIC miners in a major electricity theft crackdown, according to a local report from Sinar Harian. The aforementioned equipment had been seized in a special operation with Tenaga Nasional (TNB), the country’s main electric utility company. Acting on a tip, local police carried out 38 raids at 21 locations around the Kota Setar district to investigate electrical power theft, electric meter tampering, and other levels of damage inflicted on electricity supply lines. Apart from mining machines, the authorities also disposed of 14 units of modems and 37 units of desktops. Illicit mining performed on stolen electricity is pretty common in Malaysia. In December 2021, Malaysian authorities confiscated over 1,700 Bitcoin mining machines worth more than $800,000 that were powered with stolen electricity. Similarly, in July last year, there came a viral video that showed hundreds of Bitcoin mining steamrolled by Malaysian authorities that were powered using electricity stolen from Sarawak Energy power lines. The post Malaysian Police Destroys 1,773 Bitcoin ASIC Miners Amid Electricity Theft Crackdown first appeared on Cryptoknowmics-Crypto News and Media Platform. The post Malaysian Police Destroys 1,773 Bitcoin ASIC Miners Amid Electricity Theft Crackdown appeared first on Cryptoknowmics-Crypto News and Media Platform.
